Bulla Dairy Foods (VIC)
Updating SOPs at Bulla Factory sites

Updating of 85 selected, representative Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) at 2 of 3 manufacturing sites in VIC.
- In parallel, development of a quantitative model utilising document quantities, type percentage splits (site-based as well as effort category-based), and effort time estimates, to provide reliable guidance for the business case in support of the budget to complete the upgrade and run a maintenance program for all 750 SOPs in total.
- In parallel, transfer skills to members of the internal Continuous Improvement Team, to be able to continue with the ongoing task of maintenance of this literature set into the future.
Achievements:
Over a 7 month period, we achieved the following;
• Configured appropriate Bulla-acceptable standard document templates,
• Guided explicitly by the scope, and assisted by a suitable SME (assigned by the Training Coordinator (TC) at the site), reviewed and updated 85 representative, detailed Procedure documents (Work instructions),
• Updated or developed any associated Forms and Templates needed to support the Procedure,
• Circulated the Draft Procedure documents, plus any draft updated Forms / Templates, to the contributing SME, and the corresponding TC, for validation review, and to the Process owner for signoff,
• Assisted in the definition of mechanisms to manage document evolution,
• Supported the handover to an appropriate Role within the Organisation for (a) update and ongoing maintenance of remaining 670 SOPs, (b) centralised storage and accessibility requirements as necessary.
• Updated the numerical model with validated work time standards for each document type by length and by complexity type, to produce a budgetary effort and time estimate for the internal completion of the remaining documents.
